Our Client: Is one of the fastest-growing multilingual language service providers globally, with 15 strategic international offices. They deliver comprehensive localization solutions, built on being a customer-centric organization, with an unwavering commitment to exceptional quality standards, technological innovation, and adding tangible value throughout the entire localization process.

As part of their targeted UK growth strategy, they are intensifying their focus on the Intellectual Property and Legal sectors, providing crucial translation and localization support for patent documentation, legal contracts, and compliance materials.

Summary: They are seeking a Business Development Director to lead market penetration efforts within the UK's demanding legal and intellectual property landscape. This role is instrumental in acquiring new enterprise clients, cultivating deep-rooted partnerships with law firms, corporate legal departments, and IP-specialized organizations, and establishing the company as a premier provider for accurate, secure, and compliant patent and legal localization services.

The ideal candidate will be strategic, adept at consultative selling, resilient, and possess a robust understanding of the unique requirements for linguistic accuracy, terminological consistency, and data security in legal and patent contexts.

Familiarity with the workflows and documentation involved in patent filings (such as with the UKIPO and EPO), litigation support, and IP portfolio management is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive revenue growth and achieve or exceed yearly sales targets by establishing a sustainable pipeline of qualified prospects through targeted outreach, market research, participation in trade events, and professional networking.
  • Systematically identify, evaluate, and advance qualified opportunities through each phase of the sales cycle toward successful close.
  • Apply a strategic approach to uncover clients' operational hurdles using consultative techniques and propose customized solutions addressing specific pain points in patent filing, prosecution, and litigation support.
  • Clearly communicate the company’s unique value proposition, core competencies, and differentiation in line with client objectives and demands.
  • Partner seamlessly with internal teams—including solution designers, project leaders, and operations staff—to craft compelling proposals and commercially viable service packages.
  • Cultivate lasting client partnerships founded on trust and performance, ensuring ongoing satisfaction, account retention, and identifying cross-sell/upsell potential.
  • Create persuasive proposals and skillfully navigate negotiations around terms, pricing, and contracts.
  • Formulate and deploy a structured territory plan informed by rigorous market study and competitor intelligence.
  • Take ownership of the entire sales funnel, tracking all active pursuits, maintaining clear progress records, and delivering consistent updates and reliable forecasts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, Linguistics, Translation Studies, or another pertinent area.
  • At least 3–5 years of direct sales or business development experience, ideally gained within language services specializing in patents/IP, legal documentation, or adjacent professional services domains.
  • Proven success in business development and relationship management focused on regulated or legally sensitive industries.
  • Superior verbal and written communication abilities coupled with digital literacy.
  • Capable of overseeing multifaceted projects and managing simultaneous priorities efficiently.
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Independent worker able to operate autonomously, take charge in ambiguous contexts, and initiate action without heavy oversight.
  • Skilled user of MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
